Elton John has an alomost theatrical voice combined with a singer/songwriter kind of sound that he has developed into what it is.
If you notice, Elton is not so concerned with range as much as he is pitch. Notice how his vowel sounds stay open. He doesn;t over accentuate his consonant sounds.
