I don’t mention it because there are a TON of “technical vocal pedagogy terms I chose not to confuse people with.

A dropped larynx is a natural by-product of open throat technique. Once the tongue is dropped to the base of the jaw, the jaw itself is dropped, the soft pallet/uvula is raised, the larynx drops (if you are doing it correctly).

So I have chosen not to use terms like pharyngeal larynx when it is not necessary and mostly just confuses people with a technical term, but yes you are correct, the larynx must stay low especially when adding compression.

That’s a good question:

Think of it like an accordion.

The accordion expands to get the air needed to make a sound. It is pressed together (compressed like pushing down on your diaphragm (like going to the bathroom) as you sing as phrase or ascend a scale and then is gradually released as you come off of the phrase or scale (in other words it begins to relax to get ready for the next breath/phrase as you come off of a scale or phrase.
