Join Now!I remember when I first heard Guns n Roses.
It was on a local radio station in Los Angeles called KNAC Radio.
Tawn Mastrey, one of the DJs at the station had Introduced Paradise City and G n R.
It was ironic because a couple of weekends prior I was at a rock Magazine benefit concert in Hollywood at the Troubadour where many LA musicians including Slash, Tracii Gunns of LA Guns and others were performing to a half-empty House.
Axl had shown up to sing a couple songs as well.
It wasn’t but a few weeks later that guns and roses went from playing half-full very small Hollywood venues to blowing up arenas around the world.
I’m not trying to play the grandpa card here but I think it is noteworthy:
To be candid, there were many popular bands at this time. And Guns N Roses were in about the middle of the pack.
For example, GnR, Motley Crue, Poison, Jane’s Addiction, Van Halen, Ratt, WASP, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Quiet Riot, (not to forget The Bangles, Circle Jerks (punk), Social Distortion (punk), The Blasters (Rockabilly), Los Lobos, The Dickies) and many many other bands.
It was an explosion of music.
Of all those bands, few snuck by the gatekeepers who set out to pasture most of these LA trendsetters.
Those bands of course were Van Halen, G n R, Motely Crue, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
So I thought it would be fun to do a reaction to Axl Rose / GnR being homies from my back yard in LA.
I hope you find this vocal coach reaction informative and even entertaining. 🙂
