Taking us back to 1973, today Sara will be taking on the Styx classic “Lady” which was originally written by Dennis DeYoung for his wife.

Apparently DeYoung had only ever played an electric keyboard up until the time the band was due to record the song. Upon seeing an acoustic piano in the studio, he decided to try playing the song on it and ended up preferring the difference.

When the song was first released on the album Styx II, it received very little airplay but the following year the band changed labels to A&M Records upon which it went on to gain national popularity and charted at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song eventually was re-recorded for the band’s compilation: Greatest Hits, and to this day it is the only song the band will perform from their pre A&M Records days.

We hope you enjoy Sara’s take on this power ballad and please be sure to let us know what you thought of her version in the comments!
