“Open Arms” came very close to never being a reality. Could you imagine if one of Journey’s biggest hits would have never been recorded?
The original melody was written by Jonathan Cain back when he was still in Babys but was rejected by vocalist John Waite.
When Cain later presented it to Steve Perry, Perry loved it but the rest of the band was opposed to the tune. Fortunately for the world, they finally came around and the song became “one of rock’s most beautiful ballads”.
