Joan Jett was 18 and touring in England with The Runaways when she first heard “I Love Rock and Roll” which had already been recorded by a British band called The Arrows.

Though Jett wanted to record the song with The Runaways the band was not interested in the song and in 1981 she went on to record it instead with the Blackhearts which resulted in a smash hit.

What other examples can you think of where an artist recorded a song that their previous band rejected only to see it become a huge success? Share with me in the comments!

Jett reversed the lyrics to tell of a girl hitting on a guy and by the time she released her version, the line “Put another dime in the jukebox” was outdated since very few jukeboxes took dimes anymore.

Kayla is taking on this timeless tune in today’s video. Check it out!
