Personal Life
I grew up in a very musical family. We had a family band when I was in elementary school called “The Mixtures”. I started out on drums, and soon showed an interest in singing. I also grew up as a competitive gymnast, training for 20 hours a week for a few years.
I graduated from the Music Theatre Performance program at Sheridan College in Ontario in 2012. I had the privilege of performing in some of my favourite musicals including RENT, Avenue Q, Hair and I was even a cast member of the ORIGINAL workshop production of the now Broadway hit COME FROM AWAY.
Over the years I’ve been in many cover bands, I have recently joined a new band yet to be announced, and I am also currently in an acoustic duo with my husband, Rob. I am also proud to announce the release of my first album “STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW” which is available on all platforms.
Outside of music, I have a very full and happy life with my husband and 2 cats. I love the outdoors, I love hiking and swimming. I had taken up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a while, but I have some back and hip injuries I’m currently working through, so BJJ has been on pause, but I absolutely loved it and hope to get back to it soon! I also love to travel and look forward to doing more of that, starting with a trip to London in May!
Professional Life
Before KTVA I had already been singing for about 20 years. I had trained with classical teachers as well as musical theatre teachers. I had also trained with my dad focussing on harmonizing for years as well.
As grateful as I was for all of my training, I always found that my voice sounded very young, thin and sort of “princess-y”. I had always wanted a more rounded tone in my voice, and I wanted to be able to sing rock. Prior to KTVA, when I sang “rock”, it wasn’t rock… it was a musical theatre kid attempting rock, but still sounding like a musical theatre singer.
Some of my favourite bands growing up were Kiss, Dream Theatre, Heart, Pat Benatar, The Who, The Beatles, and Evanescence. It wasn’t until I was in my 20’s I discovered Halestorm and became obsessed with Lzzy Hale. She is now my favourite singer.

What It's Like to Work With Me

Flora Yu
Jackie is an expert in vocal technique for contemporary vocal styles (ex. rock, metal, pop, Broadway). For over a year, she has been patiently coaching me to sing songs I love in a way that is connected, supported, and expressive. She’s the master of the upper chest belt, and she can guide you through the steps it takes to get there!
Jackie is able to help me understand, through demos and creative explanations, what’s going on behind the scenes in my vocal cords, diaphragm, soft palate, etc. and all the parts of the body that are invisibly doing the work when you sing.
Whenever I want to switch it up from the usual technique/repertoire-type class to focus on, for example, playing guitar while singing, harmonizing, or ear training, she has the experience and knowledge to have a lesson and materials ready to go.
Most of all, Jackie makes singing unintimidating and fun!
