Kansas guitarist Kerry Livgren wrote “Carry On Wayward Son” just two days before the band began recording their album Leftoverture and it ended up being a last minute addition to the album.

In looking at Steve Walsh’s isolated vocals, we’ll explore the distinct way he enunciates and how he uses it in combination with open throat technique.

We’ll also examine the way the harmonies in the song are placed and how they were created with very little effect. I’ll also demonstrate how we can use effects to add a little more push to the sound.
