The AD may say “bass player” but guess what? Often the best SINGER is the bass player that gets hired for the position in the band. Same with Guitar, Keyboard players, and drummers. You might not even hit a lick, because often the choice comes from the best background vocalist, or emergency lead singer, as a form of “insurance” for the band. And what band doesn’t want to have the BEST VOCALS IN TOWN? Can you blame them?
Just like you have put in time and effort into your musical capabilities, you can do the same thing with your VOICE. Yes, YOUR VOICE. It’s an INSTRUMENT that you just might not really know how to properly use.
Did you just pick up a guitar one day and play incredible, blistering lead solos? Probably not. Well, most great singers also had to put in some time and effort into learning to work their voice, just the same.
Don’t think I’m just making this up. Yes, some singers sound awesome and they never took one lesson. Many of those same singers lost their voices before their careers should have ended. You can learn to sing properly, better than you ever thought yourself capable of. It’s a skill. It can be learned. It can be practiced, and it can be honed.
Don’t be left out when the choices are being made. BE the choice!
