30 Seconds To Mars – From Yesterday – Cover – Kati Cher

I was sitting around the studio with Kati, asking her what other challenges we could take on as vocalists, when she mentioned how difficult it was for her to sing “From Yesterday” by lead vocalist Jared Leto from 30 Seconds To Mars.

Sounded like a good challenge to me! I have done this a while back with one of my other students, Gaston Jauregui, who came in second for La Voz (The Voice) Mexico.

The lyrics are quite interesting in the song. “From Yesterday” is based on Jared Leto’s real life experience of visiting China in 2005 and being struck by the country’s rich history and traditions. He was moved by the idea that such an ancient civilization is experiencing an era of modernization and globalization.

The song tells the story of a culture that, despite its rich history, is struggling to come to terms with the changes of the present. China serves as a metaphor for all cultures that are going through this transition, as the lyrics describe a battle between the old and the new.
