Aretha Franklin – Queen of Soul – 1942-2018

Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul has died at the age of 76.

You don’t get the universal title ‘Queen of Soul’ applied to you by the rest of the world, by accident. Aretha Franklin deserves the crown for many reasons, but most would agree it’s because she was one of the most naturally talented vocalists in history. There’s no way you can be into music and not have heard her songs, she garnered 20 No.1 hits on the Billboard R&B charts, 18 Grammy Awards, she became the first female inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, she was named the greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine, her recording of Respect was listed at No. 4 of the Top Song of the Twentieth Century, and on and on and on….

Her career spanned over five decades, with her first No.1 hit in 1967 – “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)” – followed by other hits like : “Respect,” “Until You Come Back to Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do), “Freeway of Love,” “Chain of Fools,” and many, many more.

Aretha, the Queen of Soul, will be missed but never forgotten and always played with Respect
