Ronnie James Dio was an amazing and dynamic vocalist. He is remembered to this day as a captivating force of nature, from his commanding voice to his gestures and stances.
Ronnie fronted several powerhouse bands, including Black Sabbath, Elf, Rainbow, and Dio.
He was vocally influenced by listening to opera as a young man, most notably focusing on Mario Lanza. He studied trumpet at age 5, and this, no doubt, helped to build his incredible diaphragmatic support. That support became the physical foundation to a powerful voice which Ronnie would become known for.
Ronnie’s signature vocal sound is revered around the world.
I personally love the sound of Ronnie’s voice, and it’s right up there at the top with my most admired voices, like Lou Gramm, Paul Rodgers, and David Coverdale.
