In July 1979, Journey was touring with Irish rock band Thin Izzy and while hanging out together in Miami, the bands shared rhyme scheme exercises together which led to the writing of “Any Way You Want It”.
Perry has credited Thin Izzy as being the primary influence for the song which was released the following year off the band’s sixth studio album.
