“Stairway To Heaven” became arguably the most famous rock song of all time despite never being released as a single. Radio stations were instead given a promotional single which would go on to become a collector’s item.

In 2007 all of Led Zeppelin’s music were released as digital downloads allowing “Stairway To Heaven” to finally chart for the first time.

Robert Plant has attributed the song’s popularity to its “abstraction” noting “Depending on what day it is, I still interpret the song a different way – and I wrote the lyrics.”
