Mr. Mister’s chart-topping tune “Broken Wings” was inspired by the novel The Broken Wings by Khail Gibran, which also served as the inspiration for the Beatles classic “Blackbird”.

The band wrote the ballad with lyricist John Lang in about 20 minutes and then recorded the song at home on a tape recorder.

Though their label RCA wanted the band to release an uptempo version of the song, the band resisted and eventually won out.
