Arguably one of the greatest pop songs and music videos of all time, Michael Jackson – Thriller.

Few people realize what painstaking efforts go into making a track like this.

In this isolated vocal version, I decided to break down the vocals line by line to give you a flavor of what I am talking about.

Michael was well known for doing something called “comp tracks”.

Producer Quincy Jones would have Michael sing the song many many times over and then pick phrases, lines or even single words that he felt were the best “takes” and comp (or compile) one single track out of the multi tracks that they recorded.

We explore this in a little bit of detail in this video along with Michael’s style, his phrasing, his amazing pitch tone and energy.
