Donna Summers has been called the mother of modern day techno music.
Her disco and dance club music paved the way for what was to come.
Billboard ranked her as the 6th most successful dance artist of all time and she was the first recording artist to receive a Grammy for “Best Dance Recording.”
Donna’s musical influence was impacted by the rock music coming out of the 60s and one of her first singing gigs was as the lead singer of a psychedelic rock band named Crow.
Years later she was introduced to disco music where she really found her audience.
She was the first female artist in music history to have two hits in the Billboard Top 3 at the same time which she did twice.
Donna was also the first artist to achieve three consecutive US #1 albums and has sold over 130 million records worldwide, making her one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time.
During the course of her long career she put out 17 studio albums won five Grammy Awards between 1979 and 1998 and six American Music Awards.
