Join Now!Guys I wanted to share with you my latest reaction for the song Plush by Stone Temple Pilots.
STP was fronted by the late Scott Weiland who was known for constantly changing his vocal style and appearance.
Criticized by some for his onstage persona, Weiland was known to be both flamboyant and chaotic with a personality akin to Jim Morrison.
Interestingly enough, Weiland has been quoted as saying “Jim Morrison was a huge inspiration and influence on me, probably for better and for worse.”
Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo wrote the riff for Plush in the back of a U-Haul truck that the band was using. The song’ s instantly recognizable chord structure was inspired by DeLeo’s love of Ragtime music.
The lyrics for the song were inspired by an “unfortunate news story” in Weiland’s hometown and were written in a hot tub by Weiland and drummer Eric Kretz.
Weiland described the song which won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock performance, as “a metaphor for a lost obsessive relationship”.
I personally love the Led Zepplin inspired intro which was in STARK contrast to what many of the bands were doing at that time.
