Join Now!Green Day is considered to be one of a few bands in the 90s who helped make punk rock more mainstream in the US.
Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols wasn’t as big of a fan and once dismissed Green Day’s legitimacy as a punk band saying “They didn’t earn their wings”.
One thing he can’t deny however is their incredible musicianship and the tremendous success they’ve earned.
Hailing from East Bay California, the band got their start in the mid to late 80s playing at a DIY venue called “924 Gilman Street” in Berkeley, California.
It wasn’t until 7 years later that they put out their first major label album with Reprise Records. The album was an immediate success selling over 10 million copies in the US and reaching platinum status.
The band has gone on to sell over 85 million records and has won 5 Grammy’s. They even had a musical created off of their album American Idiot.
They are set to release their 13th studio album later next year and I’ll be reacting to a performance of a song off that album called “Father of All”.
