“Fallin” was the track that got it all started for Alicia Keys, released as the first single off of her debut studio album.
On writing the song, Keys has stated she wrote it for someone who was 10-12 year old “like a young Michael Jackson” who is just learning about love as the lyrics speak to the ins and outs of relationships.
The song went on to reach global success topping the US Billboard Hot 100 and also reaching the top 5 in multiple other countries. It earned Alicia 3 Grammys and has been listed as one of Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs of the Decade.
Considered her signature song, it has been highly praised by music critics and ended up being one of the best-selling singles of 2001 as well as the highest charting number-one single for the year.
