Styx singer Tommy Shaw apparently got the inspiration for the composition of “Blue Collar Man” from the sound of a motor boat engine that wouldn’t start.

Songwriter friends, what would you say is the strangest thing that you’ve ever gotten inspiration from when composing a song? Let me know in the comments!

Shaw thought the noise of the engine sounded like a good riff to a song which ultimately led to the high energy guitar licks “Blue Collar Man” is known for.

I’m going to take on both the tune and the persona of the tune in today’s video. Let me know what you thought!
