Truth be told, I grew up as a Rocker. And Rockers were not allowed to like ballads like “All Out Of Love.” It was frowned upon by my Rocker peers. (It was almost as bad as admitting that you liked disco, ha ha!)
But to be honest, I secretly really like these kinds of songs.
I’m not sure if it’s because it was the love songs they played during “Couples Only” at the skating rink where you got to skate dance with your dream girl and it was your only chance to do so, or if I just liked them because they are truly great. But whatever the case, I really liked them! (kind of funny, I loved groups like the Bee Gees as well which were also taboo for Rockers and later we find guys like Dave Grohl covering entire albums of material like this, ha ha!).
But greatness withstands the test of time regardless.
I was left with a problem though. Growing up, guitar was my first instrument and because I only started dabbling in vocals at about the age of 19, I found myself realizing that this song was way out of my range and I’d better stick to low range Rocker stuff.
But after learning an incredible amount of technique and information about the voice, I realized it just wasn’t true. I was able to sing songs like this. And more!
It didn’t come easy, it didn’t come overnight, but it did come with correct information and correct practice.
So I thought I would share this story with you along with this song in hopes that it inspires you on your singing journey. 🙂
