For a time there, it seemed like there wasn’t a mall or a supermarket, or even a gas station minimart you could walk into without having this song being played somewhere throughout your day.
I have seen many people comment on how much this song has meant to them lyrically.
Lead vocalist/guitarist John Rzeznik of The Goo Goo Dolls shares: “The song’s meaning directly correlates to the plot of the movie, City of Angels. In the movie, Cage’s character is an immortal angel but throws away his immortality for love. He becomes human so he can be with the one he loves.”
Rzeznik further explained: “When I wrote it, I was thinking about the situation of Nicolas Cage’s character in the movie. This guy is completely willing to give up his own immortality, just to be able to feel something very human. And I think, ‘Wow! What an amazing thing it must be like to love someone so much that you give up everything to be with them.’ That’s a pretty heavy thought.”
Giusy and I thought that was quite intriguing and decided to go ahead, put our hat in the ring, and do a cover ourselves.
We hope you like it, we hope you enjoy it 🙂
