The British pop group Eurythmics was comprised of members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart.

Before starting the Eurythmics Stewart and Lennox were a couple while bandmates in a group called The Tourists. Soon after forming Eurythmics in 1980, they split up, but continued making music together. Many of their early songs express the complex feelings of still working together.

“Eurythmics” is actually a real word which means the art of interpreting music through bodily movements.

The duo released their first studio album, In the Garden, in 1981 to little success, but went on to achieve global success with their second album Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), which was released in 1983.

The title track was a worldwide hit, topping the charts in various countries including the US. They rose up at the same time MTV was becoming a powerhouse, which worked well for them because they made high-concept videos and had a striking visual presentation.

The duo went on to release a string of hit singles and albums before they split up in 1990. After they broke-up, Stewart became a sought-after record producer, while Lennox began what would be a very successful solo recording career.
