PAT BENATAR – HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT – cover – Kati Cher

Pat Benatar’s classic “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” was written by songwriter and producer Eddie Schwartz. Schartz has gone on to work with artists such as Joe Cocker, Carly Simon and the Doobie Brothers but when he first wrote the tune, he was a struggling guitarist living in Toronto.

Shortly after writing the tune, he was approached by a publishing company called ATV who had him record a demo of his songs and they ended up hating “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and decided not to use it.

Schwartz went back to Toronto dejected but shortly after, ATV hired a new staff member who heard the song and loved it. His repeated play of the tune caught the ears of Pat Benatar who was in a meeting next door and heard it through the walls.

Without Pat’s chance exposure to the song that day we might never have gotten to hear her first top ten hit.
