What Makes This Singer Great? Milijenko Matijevic

Miljenko Matijevic literally reached another stratosphere when singing in his multi-octave range and today we’ll look at what he did when singing that made him great.

Born in Croatia, Miljenko (also known as Michael), moved to the US with his family when he was six. 3 years later he began singing in church choir and at age eleven he was introduced to Led Zeppelin which started him on his musical journey.

He knew from his early teens he wanted to be a rockstar and in the late 80s he joined a band called Red Alert which later changed their name to Steelheart.

As the frontman to Steelheart the band enjoyed commercial success right away with their debut album selling 33,000 copies on its first day in Japan alone.

The album went on to reach platinum and its power ballad, “She’s Gone,” hit #1 on the international charts, staying there 17 weeks. Their second single, “I’ll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)” reached #14 on the Billboard charts.

Miljenko continues to perform and in 2016 he performed the Dream Concert in Korea where he became the only foreign artist to ever perform a concert to an audience of 60,000 people.
