Join Now!What is mixed voice?
Mixed voice can most easily be explained by simply saying that it is our “call” register/chest register blending with our “head voice”/”falsetto” registers.
But there’s a bit more to it than that.
Mixed Voice can be very different for guys than it is for girls.
Girls’ vocal cords are approximately 1/2 (some as big as 2/3) the size of male vocal folds.
What does that mean and why does it matter?
It means that the shorter the cords, the higher in frequency (i.e. note values) and the faster those cords will resonate.
Because men’s cords are thicker with a lot more girth, it can be more challenging to connect our chest/call register with our head voice/falsetto register in a seamless “mix” (or maybe better stated “blending”).
Women have a natural propensity towards using their soft falsetto-like register as their main instrument for singing, whereas most men do not do this.
In this video, we discuss the differences and how to obtain this elusive concept and subject.
