First released in 1986, Jon Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer became a Number One Billboard Hit that rocked the charts for weeks. His fans have voted it as his all-time top hit, again and again, and it is one of the best-selling singles OF ALL TIME.
The story line of the lyrics is one we can all relate to in one way or another. Times are tough. Tommy is a dock worker, but the Union is on strike, so he’s feeling desperate. Gina is working hard in a diner, bringing home whatever she can… for Love. She says “We’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got…” and “we’ve got each other, and that’s a lot, for love.” Tommy’s six-string is in hock, so he can’t let all of his feelings out through music…
Bon Jovi was hitting on the heartstrings of people everywhere. We can all resonate with what they were going through.
Livin’ On A Prayer may be one of the most amazing songs from one of the most popular artists, but it’s definitely not the easiest song to sing. But that’s what made it a challenge for me to take on. I have brought alongside my friends in the Epoch House Choir with their amazing backing vocals.
