After having gone without a blockbuster hit from any of their previous 3 albums, “Thunderstruck” ended up providing AC/DC with their next big breakthrough tune.

The inspiration for the song apparently came from an experience Angus Young had where a plane he was in was struck by lightning and almost crashed.
Angus was able to create the distinctive opening guitar part by playing with all the strings taped up, except the B.
