OK, I’m not gonna lie.

I had absolutely nothing to do with choosing this track because I really didn’t feel like it fit the KTVA vocal demonstration vibe.

And boy, did Kati prove me wrong!

I wanna give you guys a little behind-the-scenes on how these videos are made.

And I’ll be very specific regarding Kati as an example.

Kati lives in Austria, and so what we would do is jump on zoom session after zoom session, discussing song ideas and working them up prior to her flying all the way to my studio in Flagstaff, Arizona. But this isn’t the end of the training process or the “working up a song” process.

When a KTVA vocalist finally arrives to the studio, we spend a couple more days in sort of a “Boot Camp” mode to get the voice to have maximum stamina, range, clarity, and pitch.

Then we work out the songs in person to see what songs rise to the top.

And usually we pick 3 to 4 times the number of songs we could possibly use.

This gives us the ability to sift through the diamonds to see which ones are best and which ones we can actually pull as a maximum-impact vocal demonstration (this even includes “pacing the song” so we know where we can “lean in” and where we need to back off to get to higher notes, etc.)

Kati had been hinting for several months at wanting to do the Tina Turner version of Proud Mary, and I was very nonplussed by wanting to do this song.

On the fourth day of recording, Kati asked me if she could please give the song a try, and that she had even worked up the dance moves to pace her breath to be able to sing it AND dance to it at the same time like Tina Turner, and what I would call the Tina Turner “Review”.

So I hit the record button, fired up the cameras, and Daaaayyyyuuuummmm!!!!

She absolutely crushed it, and I mean ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED IT!

Hey, maybe that’s just me? How do you think she did?
