One of the things I love most about this song is its haunting melody.

But when I recorded this song, I realized there is something else interesting about it I’d like you to take note of.

Most of the song has multi-layered vocals throughout, but there are a couple parts with single vocal lines which happen to be the lower part, such as:

The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, sing and cry
Valhalla, I am coming

How soft your fields so green
Can whisper tales of gore
Of how we calmed the tides of war
We are your overlords

So now you’d better stop
And rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing

The reason I bring this up is because I am a singing academy, looking to demonstrate vocals, and I found it interesting that most of these vocals are multi-layered and don’t really demonstrate much, other than a great song with a high vocal production value.

Nonetheless, next to Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Rock and Roll, and Black Dog, it is one of the most popular Led Zeppelin songs, so I felt in good company doing it.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed performing it for you.
