The Swedish pop group Abba are one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music. From 1974 to 1982 they topped the charts worldwide.

Abba is also the name of a Swedish seafood company and the band had to negotiate rights to the name ABBA with the canned herring brand which had been around since the 19th century.

The band was composed of two married couples during their active years but their personal lives suffered with the increase of their popularity and eventually both marriages ended. The group’s later music reflected their relationship changes and contained more introspective lyrics.

The four band members had actually recorded their first hit together years before ABBA but ultimately enjoyed the most success with the band. ABBA released a greatest hits compilation after only three albums.

Estimates of their total record sales are over 360 million, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
