March 15 was the day Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C. He was stabbed to death.
In Shakespeare’s play “Julius Caesar,” a soothsayer offers Caesar a warning, “Beware the Ides of March.”
In Roman times, March 15 was a day of celebration and festivals dedicated to Mars, the god of war.
But Ken, what does this have to do with the song Vehicle?
Glad you asked!
Vehicle was performed by “The Ides Of March.”
Hailing from Chicago, Ides Of March’s main songwriter Jim Peterik’s songs have garnered 18 top-10 Billboard spots and have sold over 30 million copies, earning him a Grammy, a People’s Choice award, an Oscar nomination, and multiple Gold and Platinum RIAA commendations.
These songs are among everyone’s favorites, and are all instantly recognizable. His collaborations with .38 Special – “Caught Up In You,” “Hold On Loosely,” and “Rockin’ Into The Night” (to name a few) vaulted to the top of the charts.
A former member of the group Survivor, Jim co-wrote all their smash hits such as “The Search Is Over,” “Is This Love,” “High On You,” “I Can’t Hold Back,” and yes, Jim co-wrote “Eye Of The Tiger,” one of the most popular songs of all time.
So with that said: I bring you one of Jim’s / Ides Of March’s smash hits Vehicle!
Let me know I I took you where you wanted to go! 🙂
