Canadian born Folk / Pop singer Sarah McLachlan has been a staple in the Pop/Folk world for some time.
Shortly after her birth, Sarah was adopted by Jack and Dorice McLachlan.
Sarah is best known for her emotional ballads including “I Will Remember You,” “Angel” and “Building a Mystery.” Due to McLachlan’s passion as an animal rights activist, her song “Angel” became the anthem for an advertisement supported by the American Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). According to The New York Times, the ad has raised more than $30 million for the ASPCA since its initial air date in 2007, making it one of the most successful fund-raising efforts in nonprofit fund-raising history.
McLachlan, founder of “Lilith Fair” which ran from 1997 to 1999 (with a sporadic return in 2010) to raise more than $10 million for women’s charities throughout North America.
Sarah McLachlan is a three-time Grammy Award Winner and was listed on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll for her songs “Building a Mystery” while McLachlan’s “Last Dance” locked in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance of the year. In 2000, “I Will Remember You (Live)” was awarded the Best Pop Vocal Performance.
Sarah’s song “Angel” was first introduced on the major feature film “City Of Angels” which for quite some time went on to be one of the highest selling movie soundtracks of all time (later taken over by “Oh Brother Where Art Thou”).
Sarah, having such incredible emotion and passion in her singing, and Kati predominantly being know for her heavy rock vocals, thought it would be cool to take on such a powerful sensitive song like “Angel.”
