There are definitely some similarities with the power and strength that is desired for rock singing and opera singing and therefore it should be looked at as similar and treated as such.
At Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, I am a huge advocate of Bel Canto/Appoggio singing.
In fact, this is the very foundation of what I teach.
The old operatic style of singing is far superior than any other method I am aware of. And I’ve been doing this for over 30 years! I’ve searched the Earth for the latest, greatest and/or the oldest most tried and true techniques.
Nothing even comes close to beating Bel Canto!
So the question was: is singing rock like singing opera?
Well, it should be! But very few rock singers sing with good technique.
However, when done correctly, using operatic technique for rock singing is the ultimate way to sing rock.
