Singing While Sick

I am not a medical doctor and I make no medical claims.

What I do claim is an incredible amount of experience when it comes to singing.

And much of the advice that I’ve seen given on the subject of singing when sick is thoughtless, playing the safe card without research, and just simply bad information.

How many times have you heard it said that when you come down with a cold or flu that you should just “rest your voice”?

And while this may be true for some forms of strep throat or laryngitis, this is not true for the common cold, etc.

When we get sick, our vocal cords become inflamed. And much of the time mucus resides on the cords keeping them thick and losing their elasticity and suppleness.

The longer we go without exercising the cords correctly, the more the cords become leathery and lose their resiliency.

This is the exact opposite of what we need or want when it comes to singing.

Instead, in my personal experience of 40 years of singing, we want to carefully exercise the cords so that they can get back their robust elasticity, resilience and suppleness.

In this video, I discuss this in hopes to help you on your journey for singing and particularly when you get sick.
